Lyngby Boldklub suffered a clear 4-0 defeat to Silkeborg in the Superliga on Friday evening. It was a match where the defence was repeatedly exposed, and a second-half red card extinguished any hopes of a comeback.
The Lyngby side started the match in a 4-4-2 formation under manager Mikkel Jespersen. Jens Thomasen received the first yellow card for a foul after just seven minutes. Despite having some possession and winning several corners in the first half, it was Silkeborg who found the net. Alexander Priesborg Madsen opened the scoring in the 39th minute.
After the break, Silkeborg increased their dominance. Oliver Ross made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute following an assist from Villads Westh. The situation worsened for Lyngby when Simon Colyn, already on a yellow card, received his second booking and was sent off in the 69th minute. With a man advantage, Villads Westh scored the third goal in the 72nd minute, and substitute Malthe Emil Søgaard Hansen rounded off the 4-0 victory ten minutes from time.
The stats tell the story
Lyngby had 46 percent possession and took seven shots, with only two on target. Silkeborg were more clinical, putting six of their 13 attempts on goal. The defeat means Lyngby Boldklub remain in ninth place in the Superliga with seven points from eight games. The team's top scorer this season, Í. Þorvaldsson with three goals, was substituted in the 78th minute.
The next challenge is an away fixture against Brøndby on October 11th. Before that match, manager Jespersen will need to find solutions for both defensive solidity and attacking efficiency.
Manager Mikkel Jespersen confirmed it was Lyngby's first defeat in five matches. "It was a tough evening where we weren't sharp enough," said Jespersen. The defeat means the team now sits in 10th place in the Superliga with seven points from nine games.
