Lyngby Boldklub suffered a comprehensive 5-2 defeat away to Brøndby in the Superliga's 10th round on Sunday. It was the club's third consecutive loss, leaving them in 11th place with seven points from ten matches.
Brøndby took control early and led 3-0 at the break. Jacob Brøchner Ambæk opened the scoring in the 23rd minute from an Olti Hyseni assist, with Hyseni himself making it 2-0 eight minutes later. Ambæk completed his brace in the 38th minute. Max Isaac Ejdum extended the lead to 4-0 shortly after the restart.
Lyngby showed some fight in the second half. Jens Thomasen pulled one back to 1-4 in the 66th minute following a cross from Oskar Buur. Brøndby responded quickly through Oskar Fenger. Substitute Markus Adeniyi Anderson Adedeji scored Lyngby's second goal seven minutes from time, but it proved only a consolation.
Team news: Mikkel Jespersen made changes at half-time, replacing Isak Thorvaldsson and Oliver Højer. Thorvaldsson is the team's top scorer this season with three goals. David Helgi Aronsson, Mikkel Fischer and Munashe Garananga received yellow cards for Lyngby.
The line-ups were 4-4-2 for Lyngby with Mikkel Jespersen in the dugout and 4-2-3-1 for Brøndby under manager Thomas Nørgaard. View the full current squad and upcoming fixtures.
The defeat means Lyngby have taken just one point from their last four matches. They face a key home game against FC Nordsjælland next Sunday at 14:00 at Lyngby Stadion.
Lyngby Boldklub manager Andreas Bjelland was disappointed with the defence after the loss to Brøndby. He also commented on a disallowed goal by Frederik Gytkjær. "I think it's crazy to go that far back. Then you could award a free-kick for every goal," said Bjelland. The team, sitting in 11th place with seven points, has now lost its last three matches in a row.
Captain Frederik Gytkjær expressed disappointment at having his equalising goal disallowed against Brøndby. "It's football at its worst," Gytkjær told TV 2 Sport. He felt the free-kick decision against Max Ejdum 15 seconds earlier looked "cheap". The team, which has now conceded 21 goals in total, needs more pride in its defence according to Gytkjær.
