Lyngby Boldklub midfielder Mathias Hebo has publicly condemned the disciplinary sanction handed to FC Copenhagen striker Andreas Cornelius. The player labelled the ban as scandalous and fears it will affect players' willingness to show emotion.
"It's scandalous," said Mathias Hebo. "People talk about wanting something from us footballers, but it's clear that we start to hold back a bit."
The case relates to comments made by the FCK forward after a loss to FC Midtjylland. The disciplinary board took up the case on its own initiative, which its chairman, Jens Hjortskov, has explained. Hebo's remarks came when he was asked about the matter.
Hebo and Lyngby find themselves in a challenging league position, sitting 12th in the Superliga with eight points from 11 games. Their most recent result was a 3-3 home draw with FC Nordsjaelland last week, but they have only won one match all season. They trail league leaders FC Copenhagen by 17 points.
Next up is a tough away fixture against FC Midtjylland on Saturday. The last meeting between the sides ended 1-1 in August. Lyngby are without a win in their last five matches, a run comprising two draws and three defeats.
With a defence that has conceded 24 goals and a top scorer in Simon Colyn with four, the focus is on improving results. O. Snorre is the only player listed as absent on the injury list. Hebo's comments come at a time when the team needs all focus on the pitch, but he emphasises the importance of players being able to be honest.
