Lyngby Boldklub has today announced that Head of Coaching Thomas Villadsen is leaving the club to become goalkeeping coach at Brøndby IF. Managing director Andreas Byder highlights that appropriate compensation has been secured and that the recruitment of a new profile is already underway. The club currently sits at the top of the 1st Division with 42 points after 22 games – a three‑point lead over Hvidovre, and they have scored 49 goals while conceding 25 (goal difference +24).
What happened?
Thomas Villadsen joined Lyngby in January 2019 after his playing career at Nykøbing FC. Over the past seven years he has overseen goalkeeping training and, according to him, raised the environment with his energy and ambition. Byder said that "TV" has helped develop the club’s goalkeepers to a higher level, and that Villadsen’s personality has had a positive impact on the squad. Today his release clause has been triggered and Brøndby has officially announced him as the new goalkeeping coach.
Why does it matter for Lyngby Boldklub?
Losing such a central coach could affect the tactical development of the goalkeepers, especially in a season where the team fights to retain the top spot. Byder emphasized that the received compensation makes it easier to find a replacement, but the process still requires time. The club has already started searching for a profile that can continue Villadsen’s work of raising the standard at the net. At the same time, the current league position shows a solid defensive base, but stable goalkeeping training could be the difference between holding onto the lead or losing it.
What can we expect next?
Lyngby has stated that they will complete the coaching staff as quickly as possible. There are already talks with several candidates who have experience in both Danish and foreign goalkeeping training. If the new coach can build on Villadsen’s work, the club can expect to maintain the strong defence that has allowed them to concede only 25 goals in 22 matches. Despite the departure, the ambition is clear: continue to dominate the 1st Division and secure promotion to the Superliga.
Where does Lyngby stand in the current season?
Lyngby Boldklub is currently first in the 1st Division with 42 points, 12 wins, 6 draws and 4 losses. The team has a recent form curve of LLWWL, and they have just scored 49 goals while conceding 25. With a three‑point lead over Hvidovre, the pressure on rivals is high, and the club hopes the new goalkeeping coach can help keep this margin.
Lyngby Boldklub looks ahead with optimism, even though the farewell to Villadsen is one of the biggest changes this season. Fans can expect a continued fight for the top spot as the club works to ensure that goalkeeping training remains at a high level.
